A devilish 1860s sensation - finally unleashed on the 21st century! In France, around 1860, from the loins of a traditional national fascination with all things diabolical, was born a new sensation - a series of visionary dioramas depicting life in a strange parallel universe called ENFER - Hell - communicated to an eager audience by means of stereoscopic cards, to be viewed in the stereoscopes which had already become popular in the 1850s. This 3-D phenomenon, which fascinated a nation for 40 years, is now yours to share. This book, the fruit of half a lifetime's study by three impassioned authors, brings every one of the published Diableries into the 21st century for the very first time. Some of them are so rare that at the time of writing there is no known complete collection of the originals of these masterpieces. But this book enables all but two of the 182 scenes to be enjoyed just as their creators intended, in magnificent 3-D, using the high-quality patent OWL stereoscopic viewer supplied.

I got my copy a few days ago. A wonderful book, the result of an amazing amount of research, very well presented. There is a marvelous lenticular 3D image on the cover, that can be seen in 3D without a viewer. I really like how they reproduced in the book both how the actual "tissue" stereoviews look in monochrome with frontlighting, and with colors and glowing eyes with backlighting. It comes with a very nice "Owl" style viewer to for 3D viewing of the images inside the book. Well done! And just in time for Halloween.

This "Diableries" - from Brian May, Denis Pellerin, and Paula Fleming - is a stunning visual feast of epic proportions! The stereo images are the best on the subject available and the detailed research and presentation are of the highest quality. The printing quality is amazing - the images hold together under 60X enlargement! (They also devised and included a nifty stereo viewer.) This book should have sold for much more than the asking price. I haven't felt this happy about an acquisition since I was a kid at Christmas! The long-awaited authentic and definitive version of this great photographic art; the ONLY book you will ever need on the subject of Diableries!!
