{PRETITLE} Solo Guitar Playing - Book 1, 4th Edition {POSTTITLE}
If you are just begining (or been playing awhile) and want to learn to read music, this is a great book. This book begins with A LOT of basic information about playing the guitar and then gets into actually playing. The exercises begin at an easy level of difficulty and the tempo on the instructional CD is at a very attainable rate. The book begins instuctional excersises on one string at a time and progresses slowly. Mr. Noad says this book alone should take about 2 years of study to master. I did not buy this book with the CD because from what I can gather, the CD that comes with the book does not have the excersises on it but rather playing selections included in the book. Go to Frederick Noad's web site and order the instructional CD's. There are 2 CD's for this book 1. They are well worth the money as you get to play the excercises along with the instructor. The CD was also created so the student portion is on one side of stereo and the instructor on the other.By T. Hrdina
I have bought NUMEROUS instructional videos and books with CD or video. This is by far one of the best organized and easy to follow. A lot more fun with the 2 instructional CD's.
I'm taking weekly lessons and this is the book my instructor teaches from. The material is presented very logically and methodically. Over, the past 9 months of use, I can "see" the thought and effort that went into creating and organizing the material. I feel like I'm making progress yet am constantly challenged and engaged by the material. My teacher will also sometimes jump forwards and backwards in the material when he senses my eagerness and frustration, respectively. I will always recommend beginners study with a teacher, there's simply no better way to learn classical guitar IMO. But, if you cannot afford that luxury, you can't go wrong with this book.By Supperconductor
So why only four stars then? Because music books should ALWAYS be spiral bound so they will lay flat on the music stand. Publishers take note: release a spiral bound version, and I'll happily buy this book again.
